Ahead
of its much-awaited launch of the new iPhones, world's biggest tech
brand Apple announced a new addition to the iPad family.
iPad Pro is a reality after being in the rumour mills for over 18 months. To be available in November, the new iPad Pro has a 12.9-inch screen with whopping 5.6 million pixels. It is powered by the new 64-bit A9X chip from Apple, which promises 1.8 times performance that of the existing second-generation 64-bit A8X chip that runs iPad Air 2.
In fact, the new iPad Pro is faster than 80% of the portable laptops that have been released in the past year, according to Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller. Apple will position it as a computing device for professionals, a segment that the company has been eyeing for quite some time.
iPad Pro is a loaded device to lure the enterprise users away from a laptop and hence has a lot of bells and whistles like Smart Keyboard ($169) with a smart connector; and Smart Pencil ($99), besides integrated Microsoft Office and Adobe apps. iPad Pro will also work with apps like AutoCAD and Autodesk.
It supports multitasking with Split Screen app view, where two apps can be shown at the same time.
iPad Pro will cost $799 for the 32GB model, $949 for 128GB and a whopping $1,079 for the top-end 128GB model with LTE . There is no 64GB variant of this tablet.
The largest iPad ever, the tablet has a four-speaker audio system and balances the sound automatically, depending on how it is being held. It will offer 10 hours of battery life, similar to what the standard iPad and iPad mini offer.
Apple's iPad Mini product line once again got an incremental upgrade in the form of iPad Mini 4, which replaces last year's iPad Mini 3 in the company's portfolio. The tablet has the same display quality and processor as its predecessor, but is 30% faster and 18% lighter. Available in gray, gold and space gray colours, iPad Mini 4 will cost $399, $499 and $599 for the Wi-Fi-only 16, 64 and 128GB models.
Along with the new iPad Pro and iPad Mini 4, Apple also announced iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, a new Apple TV, and a major software update for Apple Watch at tonight's event.
