Huawei has launched its Mate 8 big-screen smartphone, which the company is calling its most advanced flagship device yet.
The new Huawei Mate 8 has a 6-inch IPS display with Full HD (1080p) resolution and Gorilla Glass 4 protection and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. The smartphone packs the company's own HiSilicon Kirin 950 (2.3GHz quad-core + 1.8GHz quad-core) chipset. Also present is an i5 coprocessor to handle speech recognition, low-power consumption MP3, fused location provider (FLP) navigation, etc.
Huawei has launched the Mate 8 in three variants: 32GB internal storage and 3GB RAM (2,999 yuan or approximately $470), 64GB built-in storage and 4GB RAM (3,699 yuan or approximately $580) and 128GB internal storage and 4GB RAM (4,399 yuan or approximately $690). In addition, the smartphone comes with microSD card storage up to 128GB.
The successor of Huawei Mate 7 has a 16MP rear camera with phase-detection autofocus, OIS and two-tone, dual-LED flash; the front camera has 8MP resolution. Connectivity features of the device include 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and microUSB 2.0. Its 4,000mAh battery supports fast-charging and can go from zero to 37% in 30 minutes. Below the camera is a fingerprint sensor as well.
Huawei is launching Mate 8 in four colours: gold, silver, gray, and brown.
On the software side, the smartphone packs features like voice controls, firewall to save power, defragmenter for the storage, and eRecovery.
The company said in a statement that details of the international availability of the device will be released at CES in January 2016.
