Raj Kundra, Shilpa Shetty launch Viaan Mobiles; say no facilities in India to give the quality we need
Indian smartphone market has just got a new indigeneous player -- Viaan
Mobiles. Launched by actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra,
Viaan Mobiles has launched five smartphones. V-Emerge, V-Empower,
V-Eternal, V-Encore and V-1.8. While the former four are smartphones,
the last one --V-1.8-- is a feature phone.
The actress also tweeted about the same prior to the launch.
Talking about the marketshare Viaan Mobiles is eyeing, Raj Kundra, director Viaan Mobiles, said "Within 12 months we will have at least a 2-3% market share and we are aiming at selling 3-4 lakh handsets a month."
Regarding Viaan Mobiles India manufacturing plans, Kundra said, "Currently we have no plans to build or assemble in India the brand and its offerings are very much Indian but I don't believe there are any facilities in India that can give us the quality we would need. Assembling in India is an option we will look at in the near future once we identify the right partner."
V-1.8 is a dual-sim phone sporting 2.31-inch RGB (320x240p) TFT QVGA display. The 2G phone comes with a keypad, measures 114mmx56.5mmx11.25mm and weighs 68gm. V-1,8 runs on ThreadX OS and packs li-on 800mAh battery. The phone with 0.3MP camera is available in white and black colour variants and is priced at Rs 999.
Priced at Rs 3999, Viaan Emerge is a Android KitKat 4.4.2 based dual-sim smartphone with 3.97-inch RGB (800x480p) WVGA TN display. The smartphone has 512MB of RAM and offers 4GB of internal storage and can hold microSD cards of up to 32GB. It packs a li-on 1400mAh battery and sports 2MP rear camera and 0.3MP front-facing camera. The smartphone supports 2G as well as 3G network.
V-Empower is a Android Lollipop 5.1-based dual sim smartphone featuring a 4.5 inch RGB (854x480p) TFT FWVGA display. The smartphone supports both 2G and 3G network and is priced at Rs 5,299. It is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core processor and 1GB RAM and offers 8GB of internal storage and can hold microSD cards of up to 32GB. It packs a li-on 1800mAh battery and sports a 5MP rear camera and 0.3MP front-facing camera.
V-Encore is dual-sim smartphone with 5.0-inch RGB (854x480p) TFT FWVGA display and runs on both 2G and 3G network. It packs a li-on 2200 mAh battery and sports a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front facing camera. The phone is priced at Rs 5999. The smartphone's other specifications are same as that of Empower.
Most expensive of the five smartphones is V-Eternal smartphone priced at Rs 12,999. The smartphone features 5.5-inch display, offers 16GB of internal storage and can hold microSD cards of up to 32GB.
