The Indian smartphone maker Lava today launched its flagship smartphone
V5 priced at Rs 11,499. The handset comes with some high-end
specifications and promises to offer great camera experience to the
users. Lava V5 4G comes with a 5.5-inch HD display 720X1280 pixels
resolution. The smartphone flaunts a 13MP rear camera with dual tone
flash and an 8MP front snapper with wide lens and flash. We spent some
time with the phone to see whether it's worth the price or not...
Design
The Lava V5 scores well in the design department. The phone is sleek and light despite the big screen size of 5.5-inch. The handset consists of curved edges surrounded by a metal rim which gives it a premium look and feel. The front panel houses an 8MP camera with LED flash for clicking selfies (even in low light conditions) and three capacitive keys. The rear panel houses a 13MP camera with dual LED flash. Both the volume rockers and the power button are placed on the right side of the device.
Display
Lava V5 features a 5.5-inch HD display protected with a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The display reproduced vibrant colours, and no pixilation was observed on it. The viewing angles were also accurate, and readability was fine under the sun. Playing games was also a true delight as the display is big in size.
Hardware
Powering the handset is a 64 bit 1.3 GHz MediaTek Quad Core Processor coupled with 3GB of RAM. The internal storage of the device accounts to 16GB, which can be expanded by up to 32GB using a microSD card. The connectivity attributes of the device include 4G, LTE, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and it houses a 3,000 mAh battery.
Software
Lava V5 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system out of the box, but it will get an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow soon. The device has a dedicated app drawer, which will prevent you from cluttering the home screen. The smartphone also has Smart Wake Up, Gestures control, OTG Support and Super Power Saving Mode.
Camera
For photography, Lava V5 consists of a 13MP rear camera with Auto-Focus and f/2.0 aperture. The company has used a Samsung 3M2 ISOCELL sensor for better image quality. The front has an 8MP camera featuring f/2.2 aperture with 84-degree wide angle lens and LED flash. We used the camera indoors for a little whole and were not very happy with the images it produced. The colour reproduction was also average.
What we think
Lava V5 is a pretty decent device, and we did not witness any major problems or lag while using it. However, for a clear view of the smartphone, you will have to wait for the complete review that will bring to your shortly.
