Facebook testing weather forecast feature in India too

Facebook is reportedly working on providing weather updates to its users. Several users across India were greeted with the new weather forecast feature when they logged onto their accounts for the first time in the day. The update is not available to all users yet and the social media giant is testing it with few accounts.

Users will be greeted with either Good morning or afternoon or evening, depending on the time of the first log in, followed by his/her name along with the weather forecast depending on the location.

It is still not clear as to how useful will Facebook's weather forecast come handy when compared to dedicated apps. Also, there is no official word on its public release. The company has been testing the feature for some time now.

Facebook is also eyeing hyperlocal services in the country. It is testing a new website, which will incorporate listings from businesses with pages or groups on its social network.

"We're in the early stages of testing a way for people to easily find more Pages for the services they're interested in," said a spokesperson.

On the other hand, it is working to combat a decline in people sharing original, personal content, the fuel that helps power the money machine at the heart of its social network, according to people familiar with the matter.
