In the present day and time, when acquiring the right talent can make a
huge difference for a firm, the role of the human resources wing is very
important. Startups have recognized this need and are using technology
to come up with innovative means to make the whole hiring process smooth
and efficient.
Technology makes an entry from the very basic step of scanning the job resumes. EdGE Networks, a Bengaluru based startup, is using Natural Language Processing, a method to enable machines to understand language inputs, to match the right candidate to a given job profile.
"First we analyze the job description. When we understand the function skills, abilities and traits required to perform the job, we then read the resumes, score and stack rank them for recruiters. It is easily done without human intervention and this allows us to continuously learn what is fit and what is not," said Arjun Pratap, CEO of EdGE Networks. EdGE Network's clients include HCL, Wipro and Genpact, among others.
If 'reading' the resume is one way, ranking people based on coding merit is another. HackerRank does just that. With companies like Adobe, VMware, Facebook and Inmobi on its list, the startup is now planning to push the envelope further by trying to match the candidate to the company culture.
"We are trying to figure out if the candidate is similar to people in your team or company," said Harishankaran K, co-founder of HackerRank. "A simple matching system, where you feed in all the resumes, LinkedIn, GitHub profiles of your employees and whenever a new candidate comes in, we tend to match how much of this overlaps with the current employees as well. We are working on a beta prototype."
Belong, a data-driven hiring solution, whose clients include Ola and Snapdeal, enables match between companies and people based on social data and insights. "By indexing and analyzing data from over 50 sources, including social and professional networks, online forums and communities and other sources, Belong brings the talent to hiring teams. We then use predictive analytics and science on top of this data to help our customers identify people who are a high-fit for them," said Vijay Sharma, CEO of Belong.
Technology is now not only catering to regular jobs but also to candidates who want a flexible job. For example, retired personnel, housewives, freelancers, interns etc. "What we are trying to do is getting this entire offline system to online. It is not like people don't get these kind of jobs today, they do. But they miss out on a lot many opportunities that they could have explored," said Ankit Bansal, founder of Mykindofjob.com. Mykindofjob.com has on board companies like UltraTech cements, Reliance Capital and Cox & Kings, among others.
