Microsoft’s dev tool to bring old apps to Windows Store is now live

Microsoft at its recently held annual Build conference had announced its tool to help developers port legacy Win32/.Net apps to Windows Store. Known as Desktop App Converter or Project Centennial, the preview version of it is available starting today.

Bringing existing Windows apps to Windows Universal Platform (UWP) will allow it to function smoothly on all Windows platforms across all screen sizes.

"Desktop App Converter allows developers to bring their desktop apps to UWP. It converts a desktop Windows installer such as MSI or exe to an AppX package that can be deployed to a Windows 10 desktop," according to a statement at Microsoft Download Center.

Other major announcements were the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Cortana Intelligence suite, interactive bots, Microsoft Cognitive Services, improved pen support, Xbox One development kit and HoloLens integration.

The software giant also introduced the HoloLens Development Edition for developers and enterprises while highlighting that developers can use the Universal Windows Platform to create new mixed reality with holograms.
