Asus launches world’s first smartphone with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 processor

Taiwanese smartphone maker Asus unveiled its Zenfone 3 Deluxe smartphone, having a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, at Computex 2016. And now, the company has unveiled a new variant of the same smartphone powered by Qualcomm's newly launched Snapdragon 821 chipset. This makes the new Zenfone 3 Deluxe the first smartphone to come with the latest Qualcomm chip. Other than that, the new Zenfone 3 Deluxe also has 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Rest of the specifications remain the same as the regular Zenfone 3 Deluxe.

The handset flaunts a metal unibody design and will come in Titanium Gray, Glacier Silver and Sand Gold colour options. It features a 5.7-inch Full HD display with 1080x1920 pixel resolution.

Zenfone 3 Deluxe offers dual-sim functionality and sports a 23MP rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, along with an 8MP front snapper. It also has TriTech auto-focus system which automatically selects the 2nd generation laser and phase detection and also supports 4K video recording.


The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and offers 4G, LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB Type-C as connectivity options. It also incorporates a fingerprint sensor and is backed by a 3,000 mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge support.



The company has priced the Snapdragon 821 powered Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe at $775 and the phone will go on sale in Taiwan starting August.

Last month, Asus launched its ZenPad Z8 tablet in the US. In terms of specifications, the ZenPad Z8 features a 7.9-inch IPS display with 1536x2048 pixel resolution and 178-degree viewing angles. It is powered by a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor paired with 2GB of RAM. The tablet has 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card.

It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and has an 8MP rear camera, along with a 2MP front-facing camera for video calling. The device comes with dual front-facing speakers powered by DTS-HD audio and is backed by a 4,680 mAh battery.
